I was walking out of WalMart today, and as I should have been, I was walking out of the door marked Exit. I have this huge annoyance with people who arbitrarily walk through whatever door is closest to them without reguards for whether it is an entrance or an exit. It is one of the many vestiges of working at WalMart, and trying to do cary outs of large boxes through doors that would have been empty if people only read the signs.
So, back to my point. I was leaving WalMart. And since I was the only one leaving at the time, I was proceeding through the middle of the door. As I am about through the door, a mother and child literally appeared out of nowhere directly in front of me. I stopped, not wanting to run into them. The woman looks at me, gets instantly annoyed, and says: "Excuse me!" in a very annoyed tone that implied I had done...well, anything.
I looked up, pointed at the huge letters above the door, and uttered "Huh, Exit."
She stood there and very matter-of-factly said, "Like anyone has problems going in the out door."
I smiled and before I realized what I was saying, said, "You must have a very happy husband," and walked out into the rain towards my car.
Rude people tend to bring out the best in me, I suppose.
