Starting to settle in. - Computer - The Move
Posted on: 2007-10-10 00:24:27

The move is going well. We still have a couple of trips, but I think we will be done on time. It is amusing to be half way through the move and to see just what is important, and what isn't. This is also the first time for us that the move is not close enough or fast enough that we should have planned what was going to be moved so that we don't go a week without needed stuff...like cooking utincils or stuff to eat on, but it has not been too bad.

We got our internet/cable installed yesterday. That has led to some problems...especially since the router was still in Terre Haute. Of course, even after the router was moved down, there were still a couple of problems. The is a little history with this router that I don't think I ever got into on the site before, but we have a Linksys WRT54G Version 5. I went with the 54G because it was supposed to be easy to load your own custom firmware with all kinds of spiffy features. I got part way through the process and found out that version 5, well, it couldn't be upgraded (not sure if it can be now...that ship has sailed).

So of course, the router did not work right with the cable modem. I checked the support site and guess what one router of all the thousands of routers in the world has problems with this service...the Linksys WRT54G Version 5. Yes that is right, the ONE router and even more specific Version 5 of the ONE router. I was overjoyed. About an hour of toying with the router and its firmware got it working fine and I have had no problems since. Hopefully, it stays that way.

So now you don't have to worry about Windows being the first defence now right?

Great to hear!
