I have had some interesting computer issues tonight with my desktop. At first it was constantly maximizing, going full screen, and unmaximizing (not minimize) the current application. Immedietly, I pulled the batteries out of my keyboard and started looking for stuck buttons, but the computer kept going, so I knew it was not the keyboard. Next, I reset a couple of my mouse buttons to 'Do Nothing' because I have one set to Maximize and thought it might be that, and then just shut it off completely. Still no help. I also noticed that on occasion it would select whatever was on the cursor. Thinking maybe my computer had been infected, I pulled the network cable, fired up my virus scanner, and started checking the other machines that were running (they were fine). I noticed while the scanner was running (still running as I am typing, damn my computer and the 2 160gig HDs in it right now) that the Recycle Bin was selected on the desktop. I unselected it and bam, it was selected again. I am religeous about the placement of icons, and the Recycle Bin goes on the bottom left, new files on the top left, and anything I am activly working on goes on the right. Just for testing, I selected the top-left icon. Very quickly the selection moved down all the icons to select the Bin again. I then selected the top-right icon, and it moved to the bottom-right icon. So, my computer is acting like the down arrow is being held as well. Yay.
I decided that their must be a virus or something going, grabbed the laptop, hit the couch, and started typing this post. Ok, I started typing, everything has since been deleted because... I went downstairs, pulled the batteries out of my old cordless keyboard, came up and discovered the computer is fine now.
I had moved my old keyboard (and two others) downstairs earlier today because I was making some vague attempt at straightening the computer room for the Christmas tree that may or may not get fully assembled and decorated (Erin is uber busy and I could care less about it). I guess I sat the other two on top of the cordless and it was pushing the keys down. Now the odd thing here to me, is A.) the keyboard has sat idle for a month or two and I would have thought the batteries would have died and 2.) I replaced it because it was having connection issues and would only occasionally...from two feet away from the sensor...catch all the keys being typed. So through a hardwood floor and about 15-20 feet away, my old keyboard was reaching out...maybe it is time to unplug the receiver.
On and unrelated note, it is finally warm in here. I have no idea when, but apparently the blower went out of our ventalation system and while the heater was working, no warm air was getting pushed out. We had noticed it was getting colder and colder, but since it was not quite unlivable yet and it was the weekend, we held off until today to call about it. Shortly after I called they were here working on it and several hours later (and two supply runs) we had heat pumping out. It is now a toasty 70 degrees...as opposed to the 58 it was last night at this time.
Oh and I am really, really digging this whole laptop thing way more than I should.
