I think I am done with MMOs for awhile. I reached the point in EverQuest where I was logging more time looking at the bazaar window than actually playing and that is normally about the time I like to leave. So I canceled both accounts yesterday (Erin does not play hers anyways, and she can always reactivate anytime). My account dies today and hers on the 8th. Hell, I don't even have a working harddrive in my computer if I wanted to play my last day away. I am not really wanting to move into another game right now, but I probably will. I picked up Grand Theft Auto a few months back...in my path to being 100% legal on my computer I figured I should buy it since it was the only game in years I played and did not own. Hopefully if I do slip, it will be to it, and not something I have to go out an buy.
My harddrive is working, it is just not hooked up. Instead I have the first sata HD out of the wife's machine (first HD was technically an IDE drive, but we very quickly bought new SATA ones). We have very similar computers as far as mobo/proc are concerned, and we also used to have the same HD...only I still have mine and her computer is on her fourth (fifth?) HD. The last time it totally tanked a drive I decided that I would look around for a more hardcore HD utility than jumping out and buying another new HD, especially since I use her computer way more than she does. I ended up with SpinRite. The software from the HD's manufacturer said to toss the drive, but after running SpinRite, it has been running for about three weeks non-stop without a lick of problems. (I honestly thought it would be a waste of money but bought it more to support the writer of the software who also hosts a weekly podcast I listen to.) Anyways, her first SATA drive is currently going through the motions with SpinRite and will be done in about 9 hours. Here is to hoping I get a new/slightly used drive for my machine. :)
Machines... I have a new one. I kinda hate myself for it and I have until the middle of next week to decide on keeping it or not. It is a laptop. I have been wanting one for quite some time now, knowing I really did not need it. I always wanted something simple. I mean, I have a desktop computer that flashes like lightning, why would I need a laptop with bling? Widescreen, 802.11g, a fair sized harddrive, DVD drive, and some USB ports is all I wanted and this has a whole lot more. It is sad really, I am in this headspace where even though I know a lot about computers, I don't really care anymore. I know this will do more than I will ever need it to, it was mildly cheap, and I had the money. I am really wanting to get way more into the softer side of computers and forgetting about the hardware side. Yes, I know I just had a paragraph about harddrive recovery...fuck off.
Oh, his name is Lightman.
