The Recap: work, heat, Simon, and books - Family - Work - DADC
Posted on: 2006-06-06 01:22:51

The Sony DADC recap is a good place to start. It started at the job fair, they were looking for seasonal help and saw my engineering degree and thought I might be able to fill a tech position. Knowing the amount of time that has passed and my general lack of interest, I said no and that I was just interested in the seasonal position. Within 24 hours of the fair, I got a call asking if I would like to take a placement test. I had a feeling that it was for the tech position, but I figured I would take it anyways. Sure enough, I took the test and it was in fact a technician test. I actually left feeling I did ok but more than ever knowing I did not want to do it and would probably not be right for the job. Within an hour or two of getting home from the test, I got another call asking if I wanted to take it. Apparently, they had a couple of people working on the list and I got accidentally called twice. A couple of weeks later, I got a call for an interview. I went in last week, and guess what, it was for the technician position. I had done well enough on the test that they were interested in me for the position. The interviewer did notice that given the years since I had done anything with engineering that it was obvious my interests did not lie in that area and asked if I would like the seasonal position. She called another person in to interview me for that position, so two interviews within 3 hours, and it went well. I left almost immedietly after the second interview, spent about ten minutes at Krogers (four items no line) ten minute drive home only to find one of the four items was gone. Twenty minutes later I am back again with the last item and I notice a call on the answering machine...well two, but I ignored the one from the wife. It was the nurse from DADC telling me to give her a call. It took a while to get back in touch, but it was for the requisite drug test. Next day, I took my test...exciting. This evening, I got a call offering me the seasonal job and asking if I would be available for orientation this Wednesday. So Wednesday, I will be oriented to the Sony DADC way. I am really fairly excited about this. I have wanted a job for awhile (well, a non-fastfood job) and this one should pay well, provided I can hack it.

We have also been having issues with our air conditioner. It worked for a short time before dieing two weeks ago. A call to the people we rent from and it was "fixed" within 24 hours. It lasted the week before it died again. Within an hour of calling the rentall people the unit was being looked at. Vehicle problems aside, it was working again within 24 hours, and he said that they would have someone out again today to check on it again. Same wires they replaced the first two times were burnt up again and would have given out at any time. Now we are waiting to see just what is going to happen. He mentioned we would probavly be getting a new AC unit, which would be cool. I don't care if we get a new unit or just having ours reliably fixed, I hate the heat.

Simon came up this weekend. We took him home this evening. It was the usual fun visit. We watched random, silly movies and played video games. He joined us in DnD on Saturday, which given the amount of role playing vs combat I am surprised he sat through it. I also think the both of us were amused at the wife. She decided we were a library and organized the bulk of our books to the Library of Congress standards. She is happy with it, so I guess I am happy with it.

Grats!

DADC should be fun for you!

I remember back in the day when Windows 3.1 woth Multimedia Extensions came out (1991 or so) I had to work with DADC to press our CDs for the Creative Labs Multimedia Upgrade Kits. I always remembered where they were located because Terra Haute was not an easily forgettable name.

I think when I first learned about you living there I mentioned that I knew of the place due to DADC.

Anyway, so much for my reminiscing. Grats again!

Congrats!

Go grab a store bought audio CD. I will wait for you to come back...

Now open it up and look for the stamp that says "Compact disc digital audio" with "disc" being really huge. Yeah, that might have been made there. Basically, there are a dozen or so CD/DVD plants in the US and DADC is one of the bigger ones. They also make Playstation 1 and 2 disks, UMDs (just games, they dropped the movies), and Blueray disks. I will be working in the DVD packaging area.

Ah!

Okay, got it now. And I buy all music through iTunes now. hehe

How did the orientation go?
