Alvians get wasted at Alvistime, so quit oppressing us! - Television - Humor
Posted on: 2010-12-20 12:23:00

On a frosty winter's night a wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman carrying pioneers to the frontier. A young woman in the party called Delia was heavy with child, and though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year, none had lain with her; though she was comely. And on this frosty winter's night, young Delia's water broke almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon. And the pioneers beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there. But, due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full. So there in the stable among the feed and tack and whatsit she gave birth to a son; whom she called Alvis. As was her want. And since none of the men in the party was the father, it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle! And it was so, for above the fort there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet! And so brilliant was its light that there came from all the tribes that the soldiers had not yet decimated: shamans! And they rode upon buffalo, as was their heathen custom, carrying offerings of whiskey and firearms. And when the shamans saw the child, they were in awe! For he glowed in a light that was truly not of this world!

How Things End (In my head) - Movies - Television
Posted on: 2010-08-04 02:52:25

I was discussing this with the wife earlier, and decided that I wanted to share it here as well. I have a particularly interesting way at looking at shows I no longer care to watch or don't want to exist.

Have Gun Will Travel - Computer - Television
Posted on: 2010-03-11 03:27:14

I have to say I am quite pleased with my little netbook. The quoted battery life is 8 hours, but that number was probably figured with the wireless card off and the computer running nothing more cpu intensive than a text editor. I have watched about 4 hours of streaming video off of Netflix and still have almost 2 hours left, so I am fairly impressed. I knew before we went looking that I wanted one with a 6-cell battery, and was pleased they had made it into the low-end netbooks...low-end netbook sounds redundant, I know. But my low-end netbook also plays WoW, which surprised the hell out of me. Obviously, I had to turn all the settings down to almost nothing and it is still a little sluggish.

True Blood, the first season. - Television - 2/5
Posted on: 2009-10-07 11:55:56

I finally got around to watching True Blood this past weekend. Here is the wikipedia brief for those that have never heard of it: True Blood details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town. Bon Temps literally translates as "good times" in French. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). It is based off of a series of books by Charlaine Harris, none of which I have read, so I have no idea how accurate/similar the series is to the novels.

Ian: 1, Randy Newman: 0 - Television
Posted on: 2009-09-07 00:44:41

Last post I mentioned I parents let me borrow a couple of seasons of Monk. Of course, my addictive personality required that I watch every episode, but there was a shift from season 1 to season 2. They switched the theme song. It had been this wonderful little song, no words, just kind of catchy and identifiable. Now, it is a Randy Newman song. I can't speak for the collective body of Randy Newman songs, since I have only heard 2 of them, but I can say that I dislike 50% of the Randy Newman songs I have heard. While this is still a better average than quite a few performers out there, this song is played at the beginning of every episode. So I hear it a lot.

Monk - Misc - 2/5 - Television
Posted on: 2009-09-01 15:09:37

My parents lent me a couple of seasons of Monk. They love this show. A lot. They actually bought seasons of the show on DVD, which doubled their DVD collection since they have so few DVDs. They love this show so much they named their cat Mr Monk. I had never actually seen the show until yesterday, and as of this writing, I have watched season 1...which is about 9 hours of Monk.

The Writer's Strike - Television
Posted on: 2007-11-29 10:41:17

Just in case any of you out there don't think the writer's strike is serious, watch this: Wrath of the Mandalorian. If things keep going the way they are going, you might see trash like this on TV.

TM, P, and T - Paranoia - The Move - Television
Posted on: 2007-10-11 15:19:25

Monday was the last trip to Terre Haute that was taken. We reached the point where we really needed to unpack what was here, so that we both had boxes and totes to pack up more and to simply make room here at the new place. I have a little more sorting to do, but for the most part, everything that is here and still packed is either going into storage in the basement or requires some of the stuff still up in Terre Haute. So tonight, or early tomorrow, I am running back up and spending the weekend finishing up. Needless to say, I am looking forward to Sunday. Too bad the basement isn't enough to move our friends in...or Moggers, they are about the only thing I will miss about TH.

Trust me... I'm a psychopath! - Television - 5/5
Posted on: 2007-08-23 05:14:31

I just finished watching Jekyll. Season one was six 55 minute episodes, and I have to say, it was the single best six hours I remember sitting in front of the TV. It is a fairly clever spin on the Jekyll and Hyde story. It is running on BBC America right now and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers. I am not going to mention any spoilers or details, but I will say it is not a retelling or modern day adaptation. It is more of a retcon and takes the original novel as a fictionalized version of actual events, while not really relying on the viewer knowing much about the original story (Jekyll, Hyde, potion, done).

Weekend of new shows. - 5/5 - Movies - Television - 3/5 - 2/5
Posted on: 2007-08-21 03:41:13

I had some company this weekend. Saegiru came down on Friday and stayed until Sunday afternoon. We ordered Footers and then hit the theater to watch the new Harry Potter movie (Insanely good and looking forward to owning it). Saturday, we had lunch with Miller and hit some electronics stores. Afterwards, we watched Borat (Not buy worthy, but still good.) through the myriad of computer problems Saegiru's computer was having. Lushbaugh came around after work and introduced us to the show Frisky Dingo (From the makers of Sealab 2021, just as funny, and with more plot). He left after the first 4 or episodes, but me and Saegiru finished the first season (which isn't saying much, episodes are like 10 minutes long). Sunday morning, Damien introduced me to Code Monkeys (not great, but had enough moments that I will probably follow it...still better than 90% of TV), and we watched all six episodes before he took off for home.
