Best Line Ever - Politics - Humor - Misc
Posted on: 2009-08-19 14:52:55

I was reading my feeds today, and got a link to a YouTube video of Barney Frank at a townhall meeting. Now side-stepping any political opinions here, I have decided that this is my favorite video clip of the year. The reason being, this line:

It is a tribute to the first amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated. - Barney Frank

I really kind of want to change the tagline of my page from 'Pointless and Happy About it' to this wonderful, wonderful line.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted, whoever you voted for. By voting, you became a hero for democracy, so even if you candidates did not win, you did.

This is the day. - Politics

I had this long post about why I voted for who candidate I did, but I decided that if I post it, it will be after the final vote is cast. So maybe tomorrow. But I thought there was something worth say today: This is the last possible day for all you people to ensure you can bitch the next four years. As you might not have noticed, I don't do a lot of bitching about the president around here. That is not because I haven't had anything to say, it was because I did not earn the right to complain. But this time around, if something popps up, I might just be complaining, because I earned it.

Twitter and lawn voting. - SPAM - Politics - Twitter - Site News

I had been planning on spending the day working on a better comment tracking system (and I still might later), but I got distracted by other stuff on the page. I made a couple of small changes to the site: categories and recent comments are displayed again (categories were in a dropdown thingie that did not work in all browsers). I also added a Twitter box. We will have to see how long it is before I regret that one. It doesn't show every post, but the wife and I agreed on what should show given the limitations twitter already has in place. Twitter gives two easy methods to put these in pages, one flash and one javascript. So, of course, I did neither and hard coded it into rantfest. It took way the fuck longer to do, but I got to explore several perl modules in the process so it is all good. Besides, doing it this way we can make it fit in a little better.

"Why cant mccain look at barack?" - Politics - Twitter

I pulled my title from a Twitter post a friend of mine made, and I am mentioning it here because it reflects one of the few things the debate showed me, and it firmed up my decision for president even more.

Three things to take away from the RNC - Politics
Posted on: 2008-09-04 00:08:18

1.) McCain is a war hero and they beat the living hell out of him when he was imprisoned. 2.) Obama isn't qualified. And if you paid attention to the counting process, 3.) Votes for Ron Paul don't count.

Hope you haven't wasted your life hoping they would talk about anything else, like I did, because they really didn't. Everything they said goes back to 1 and 2, and some of the stuff they didn't say goes to number 3.

I have had this all wrong. - Politics

Mitt Romney just got off the pulpit, and after his sermon, I realize I have looked at politics in the entirely wrong way. I had mistakenly thought it was about the economy, social issues, and the prosperity of our nation. But now after Mitt talked, I realize that those are just exuses to look sane. No, we are here to kill people who don't agree with us. After his speech turned to the evil empire, I really wanted to buy a gun, tons of ammunition, and kill people in the middle east. It was fascinating.

Oh, Huckabee is up, wonder what he will bring out in me.

One Guy from the RNC - Politics - Misc

I am sitting here watching the RNC Bushs talk. Thus far I have been totally distracted by one guy. I almost can't even concentrate on what is being said, because since the start of the convention, everytime someone speaks, this one guy, with his very distinctive voice, is yelling 'Hey Yeah!!!!'. Well, everytime except when something positive for minorities was uttered (not that I think he is representative of anyone else there). But still, I am sure the people around him are annoyed as hell.

We finally got the Republican VP announcement today. Mrs. Palin is a far better speaker than McCain, but listening to her speech today made me sad. It is obvious she has been pulled in to grab all the Hillary voters. She could be the best, most qualified person for the job, but unless the McCain-Palin ticket wins, McCain dies, and she runs the show into a new age of prosperity, people will always think of her as the Republican's last, great hope. And this shadow cast over her position might end up doing more harm than good for the woman's movement.
