In case you were curious... - Stories - Annoyances - Games - WoW - Work - Computer - Movies - Misc

I am aware of the lack of posts. Oddly, it doesn't even stem from a lack of anything to post about, just nothing over exciting, or at least nothing I feel excited about to somehow stretch it out into a single post. Instead of hashing out the reason(s) I have just been wearily plodding on, just being content that I can, in fact, wearily plod on. So here is a sum up:

[ DELETED ] - Misc - Annoyances
Posted on: 2010-03-04 00:48:13

Did you know that deleting your facebook account takes 14 days? 14 DAYS! How ridiculous is that? First you have to look it up in the help section, because you only have access to deactivate it in your settings. Once you find the section, it has a big paragraph talking about deactivation, links included, then a tiny paragraph mentioning deleting with a link. Clicking that link takes you a second page with the exact same information except the link to delete is slightly modified. Clicking that link takes you to a are you sure kinda page. Clicking yes goes to yet another page where you have to re-enter your password and do a captcha thing. Finally, after all that crap, it takes you to a page telling you that you have 14 days to change your mind.

At least there wasn't any nag pages. When you deactivate there are pictures of your friends with the text "These people will miss you" or some similar sentiment.

Not Playing Hooky. - Work - Annoyances
Posted on: 2010-03-02 15:16:43

I am kind of annoyed right now. I should have been at work almost an hour ago, but I am not. In fact, I am in bed typing on Gun. I don't really feel sick, slight headache, minds a little cloudy, nothing major. But then again, I am prone right now. Sitting, I have found, is good also. But walking, now that has been interesting today. I have almost toppled a bookshelf, which might have hit the cat; I knocked a couple of cans on the floor; and I very nearly had a slapstick moment when I went to sit down in my chair, only it wasn't under me. I am a little dizzy, and right now that is costing me money. I was in the process of getting ready when some of the consequences popped into my head. I work in a very fast paced job with large machines and heavy molds that are hot enough that you often don't register pain when they burn you. There are worse things that could happen.

I think we are doing it wrong. - Annoyances
Posted on: 2010-02-07 16:06:41

I am like 2.5 weeks into my new job, have received two checks from my employer (paid weekly), and somehow the wife and I only have like $20 to last until Friday and we have yet to go shopping. And yes, it is my fault. I have this inability to understand that pending transaction at my bank zip through if I have a large balance but will last up to two weeks if my account balance is low. Looking over my checking account, and this history of how long pending transactions take to go through, one might believe that my bank decides to take their time on some transactions if there is a possibility of me going under. Oh well, my next check will have 46 hours and 6-10 incentive hours. Should help stave off any further annoyances.

Now with more ads! - Site News - Annoyances
Posted on: 2009-11-23 16:12:09

I have been running ads, or at least an ad, on the site for some time now. I think I first added them in 2005, more as a page analytics thing than an effort to make money. And it is probably a good thing I wasn't shooting for money since in the many years we have been running ads, we have only racked up about $23 (you don't get your first check until you hit $50). But they have shown me something interesting, even though I get more page views than the wife, her site is gaining a little more value. I am sure Google isn't the only one who thinks her page had more value than mine, but still.

Oh yeah, DST... - Annoyances - Site News
Posted on: 2009-11-04 15:33:00

I was all set to do a post about how great I was for hitting 12k in NaNoWriMo, which is about my first years effort, when I noticed the time on my last twitter post "2009-11-04 06:10:57". I didn't think I was still up at 6am, and then I remembered Daylight Saving Time. You remember DST right, the twice a year annoyance that forces people to arbitrarily adjust their clocks so we can save money in the long run even though we are actually spending more money...that one. Oh well, I am not going to rail on today about the absurdity of this biannual annoyance or how lame Indiana got when we decided to join in on the stupid...I have done that twice a year every year since we joined in on the stupid. You know, I started to write joke about how my DST rants were almost as regular as clockwork before realizing that it is our irregular clockwork that is my problem.

5 minutes of NaBloPoMo - Annoyances
Posted on: 2009-11-02 15:08:46

I was a member of National Blog Posting Month for about five minutes. I don't remember when/where I originally heard about it, but it was my sister doing it for a few months that made me think about it again...and then realize I couldn't pull it off. NaBloPoMo...NaBlo...PoMo...This site was created as an alternative-ish idea to NaNoWriMo (which I will be talking about all month so I won't go on about it here), only instead of working towards a novel, you post on a blog everyday. One major caveat though, is every month is apparently National Blog Posting Month (used to just be November, but people wanted to keep writing, but I don't know, they needed a reason. I probably shouldn't deconstruct this too much since I use NaNoWriMo every year...).

WoW: 3.2 The "I'm Saved!" patch - WoW - Games - Annoyances
Posted on: 2009-08-18 18:42:43

Patch 3.2, dubbed Call of the Crusade, came out for wow a couple of weeks ago (Release Notes). From a holy paladin's point of view, it changed three things: reduced bonus intelligence by 5% dropping all of our int based stats, it halved our mana return critical heals, and it made our Beacon of Light misleadingly more effective. I am not going into details about any of these, I only brought them up because they changed some of the numbers I used for my WoW: Math Nerd post, but not really enough to invalidate the point of the post. Small updates to it would be MP5 isn't as much of a throwaway stat as it was, and while crit is important, don't bother gemming for it. What this patch has done, is made us better burst healers for areas where the party/raid takes a lot of damage, and hampered our staying power some. Not sure if the burst healing is worth losing the staying power when it comes to raids (where we still fill a single/dual target healing role), but for 5-mans the changes are very impressive.

The Facebook post.rev.3 - Misc - Annoyances
Posted on: 2009-07-16 22:33:34

I deactivated my facebook account yesterday after about five months. I know, I know. You didn't know I had one. I was pretty much embarrassed to tell anyone. I never sought anyone out, but a few people found me. I wanted to get a feel for the page before really mentioning it and embracing it. It didn't take me long to get a feel for it...or at least a feeling about it. Not a good one either.

About pages are bleh! - Misc - Annoyances
Posted on: 2009-05-02 11:54:12

I was doing some searches on Google ealier; wings, teeth, you know, the normal stuff. And I remembered they added a new feature awhile ago called Google Profiles. Basically, you pop on, give them your name, fill in the blanks, and include a bunch of urls that you want to claim. Then any time some searches your name they will get your profile at the bottom of the page. It really isn't terribly exciting, as you can see by looking at my profile. But it was staring at the Bio that I blanked. There is something about About pages or Bios that I just can't stand. I recently rewrote the About page here, and it was fairly draining. I guess I think I am just too boring to put into words, and every time I go to fill out an About page I get slapped in the face with just how boring I am.
