Yeah, so, I have been wanting to make some chili for quite awhile now. I keep forgetting to call home and ask for the parents recipe (no one makes chili as good as the stuff you grew up with), and they failed to answer the phone today. For some reason I think they are out of town, but I am fairly mindless right now (was up till like 4am reinstalling Windows, and then got up around 9:30am and could not get back to bed). I had mentioned to punk boy that if he wanted to come over tonight that would be cool, cause the food thing was on. Anyways, he ran home instead...ass. Guess we are going to try again next week.
So, the point: chili! Not being able to get ahold of the parents, I just ran online, and was like, holy fuck, there are a lot of chili recipes. Sad to say that most of the ones I saw had more differences in their titles than differences in their end product. So guess what I am going to call my chili? You you guess it, chili. Yeah it is boring, but it is accurate, besides, it was kinda an amalgam of different recipies, mistakes, and some insight...and it will be different next time I make it.
I did the bread bowl thing again, cause bread bowls are the fucking bomb... I also still have the dough left in the freezer, and figured I would perfect my method before I inflicted it on the girls. Same thing as the last time, but I managed to make six instead of four and the last two of the six sucked (one misshapen, one with holes) so the end product was about the same. Oh well.
Chili
1-1.5 lbs ground beef
1 small onion chopped (chopped smaller next time, woman no likie)
1 8oz can of tomatoe sauce (like 2 cans next time, I want more tomatoes)
2 small roma tomatoes diced (might drop this next time if I add more sause)
2 15 oz cans kidney beans, drained rinsed
2/3 cup chopped green and red pepper
2-3 Tbsps chili powder (started with 2, added another cause it needed it)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp dried oregano
Ok, tossed the ground beef and chopped onions (what I actually used of it) in a pot, browned the meet, and drained it. (While forming second set of bread bowls). I then tossed everything in together, kept on medium high for about five minutes, then kicked it down to simmer. (Set the bread bowls out for ten of the twenty minutes I should have, and tossed them in the oven...preheated to 350. Exciting.) Make sure there is nothing flamable around the stove, and then went to pick up the wife from school.
About 15-20 minutes later (forgot what day it was, so went to the wrong spot to pick her up...realized, of course, just as pass the last street I could have taken before having to go a longer way), checked the bread bowls, nice golden brown...one with holes though, so I pulled them out. Stirred the chili, tasted, still needed some more time, and more chili powder, hence the note up top.
About 10 minutes later (overall cooking time after mixing everything being around 40 minutes...maybe 50) the chili was done. Tossed it in bread bowl (remember they are the bomb), added some shredded sharp chedder, a little more chili powder, and enjoyed with the woman.

This is good served with Mello Yello, as is most everything. Also makes a good
accompaniment to non-combat situations in online roleplaying games.
