It seems odd to me, but the new site seems to be moving on fairly rapidly. I am looking to duplicate everything in the current incarnation of rantfest with a few minor features by the end of next week. Planning the new database seemed to take no time at all. I was expecting a couple of days of work to nail it down to something feasible, but it fell into place within hours. There are a couple of minor adjustments to make, but at this stage in the development it will take no time at all to do...and it is not really that pressing. So I am left with only one real hitch to the database and I will read up on the best solution for that tomorrow...basically I know two ways to handle it and am not sure which is better.
Either way, I am gonna have just a damned nightmare importing everything from this version of rantfest to rantfest2, and I am not looking forward to it. I have made a couple of significant changes to the database and it is going to make importing harder. I think it will take 1-2 weeks to figure the importing out. If I did not think the new database layout was far superior I would just keep the old one...but it is better, smarter, and will make other steps so much easier I could cry.
Anyways, by Friday, I should have all of the backend done except the polls scripts, which I am putting off indefinetly, then another week to get the basic shell of the frontend up and running, and I can start on the fun stuff. I am not sure I will get everything done by my July 1 deadline, which means some of the more innovative things like implementing xmlhttpRequest (very cool) and RSS feeds (pointless but interesting) might get pushed back to a later release.
