Ok, so me and some friends have been looking to start yet another DnD game. I have a feeling that it is going to be more a hang out session with periodic die rolls much like I associate with DnD. Basically what we are going to do is try to fail, as a group, at another game just like we did with EQ, SWG, and EQ2. This is gonna be fun. :)
Anyways, the pitfalls: players in three states, some lacking familiarity with the rules, used to playing with avatars, and the ease of which some of us get distracted. We know we want to be able to talk to each other, not just chat. Team Speak is a great fall back for verbal communication. For those who have never used it, it is really nice...just need a server with good upload. And we know we want a good map system as most of us lack creativity. I think that OpenRPG will provide us with that and more. OpenRPG is a program built with the idea of online 'tabletop' RPGs in mind. It has the standard chat interface including an easy and intuitive die roll system; a 2D map system that allows for premade maps, movement of avatars, and chalkboard like drawing; and what I thought was even cooler, a very nice setup for you character, (properly setup, it is just click and go on all your attacks and checks).
I need several more hours to play with the program and will probably end up enlisting tBoMM to test it out as he is the only other shiftless layabout in the group who wants to play. Anyways, if it lives up to half of my expectations, it is far better than anything I expected to find.
