My impatience got the best of me...again.

Ok, so all in all, I orderd a case, processor, motherboard, RAM, and 2 OEM copies of Windows XP Home. I had received my case, motherboard, and processor last week. I went about setting it up so that when I got my RAM I could just toss it in and go. Oh yeah, hey, the RAM I got in my current computer will work according to the manual... let switch without thinking! So, I powerdown and switch out everything. Immediatly after putting everything in the new case I realize that I probably just screwed myself.

So yeah, insert problems: Windows XP as it was preloaded pretends to boot up but is really just sitting there (I never really expect booting the previous OS to work). I tossed in the eMachines OEM version of Windows XP (oh fuck, that's right, I don't have a real version of Windows XP this isn't going to work) and it did nothing but pop up a blue screen. Well I screwed myself with XP lets toss in fedora core 3, I can play with it again until my XP disks come in and see if want to upgrade the server... that failed. Now I am getting nervous, what did I fuck up in building this. Maybe I will try Windows 2K, I know it works. FUCK! IT FAILED! [insert somewhere between 1-2 hours] Oh yeah, I am using slower RAM, so I need to move these two jumpers around, and , fuck yeah, I am SOOO good with computers! People bow down at my vast technical knowledge and worship my for my infinite wisdom.

Then there is the exciting 2-3 hours of upgrading and installing the essential programs (only the essential ones because I am expecting my XP disks to come in later this week and I prefer XP to 2K anymore.) Ok, so EverQuest2, TeamSpeak, FireFox, and Trillian ought to do it...oh, and plugins for FireFox and Trillian...oh, and puTTY...oh yeah, I need codecs so I can watch movies.

Bright and early today...I got my XP disks, so I am about to start over. I could have waited 24 hours and saved a lot of effort. Yay me!

Yeah but...

You are unemployed now though, so otherwise you were going to be a shiftless layabout for the greater portion of the day... so at least you did something other than ferment... :) Also, be thankful you have broadband and don't have to contend with shitty 56k... I mean seriously, if I have to re-do my computer I am totally screwed!
eh

Shit happens to the best of us. Now you know how I feel when someone asks me the name of a very easy to remember(to me at least) historical figure and I can't or I get them confused with someone else. Oh screw ups were rife today, I drove all the way out to Middletown, only to find out that yes, their system to verify I wasn't a total wacko was down, so I had to arrange for them to ship it to a gunstore in town, I could have done this at work or on the internet without speeding down 74 at 85+ miles an hour. In other words, instead of making a needless six hour trip, I could have slept in till ten or so and played eq all day.
Oh suck.

Actually, my story got worse, but not as bad as your trip, Lushbaugh. And yes, I thank God I am not on dialup.
