Expecting to fail...
Posted on: 2004-10-02 18:48:59, by talam

I decided recently that I need new direction with how I spend my time, especially now that the wife is becoming more and more overwhelmed with school and work. One of the things I was wanting to do is spend more time in Photoshop. I really enjoy it, and while I know I am better with it than your average Joe, I also know my skills are seriously lacking. I also wanted to work on the page a little more, either working on rantfest or just posting more. Sadly, I know that I will keep falling back on video games.

Anyways, I decided that I am going to work on two of those tonight, Photoshop and posting...this being my post about Photoshop. Yeah, it is cheap. Who cares?

I was hitting my links and came to Katie's page. She had a really cool pic of a tree up. She also, while berating her picture taking skill, mentioned that she wished the sky was blue. That was all it took. Picture saved, Photoshop opened, Wacom tablet in hand.

My goal was to make the sky blue. Of course, after doing that it looked horrible, so I went to work on the trees, and so on. I don't think my first attempt is as good as the original...but at least the sky is blue. :) No the second one, well, I am posting it to give an example of just how much I have to learn.

[ Original - Blue Sky - Bad... ]

Gee, what did you do?

I love the second pic 'cause it looks really good, but the third one looks... flat? Yeah, the word I'm looking for is "flat." It just looks a little strange, so I"m wondering what you were doing there. I really do like the second though. Good job!
I like blue

I thought about fixing it in photoshop but thought screw it, I'll deal. Thank you for playing!

...done the same with a couple pics from the vineyards The Wife and I visited. It's a tough thing to do, creating sky...but Mother Nature does it so well.
Ooops, I Almost Forgot

If you want a good magazine to check out for Photoshop, try Photoshop User. You can find it on the stands for about $10. You can also check out their site and subcribe for about $100/year. Subscription provides access to the member's section of the site and the monthly magazine delivered to your door.
Hey, don't tell him that!

We have his name in the Christmas drawing... *sigh*
Sorry :(

But, isn't a christmas drawing something that should be held in confidence?

And, he should know not to buy things for himself this close to the holidays. Now is the time to add things to your wish lists. :)
